Scientific knowledge can inform the decisions we make about the great issues of the day, whether the climate emergency or a global pandemic. But the actions that we decide to take in response to this knowledge are not mandated by science; our decisions are instead determined by our world view and by our moral values. The ethical responsibility for scientists is to be honest about the limitations of scientific knowledge. What can science say, and what can it not say?
